This was a complicated project that ranged over four floors of a town house each posing their own particular problems in terms of access and environment.

The lower ground floor had very low light levels due to shade from the high boundary walls as well as a glazed roof so planting had to be carefully considered. As a play garden it now features artificial turf for easy maintenance and shade tolerant planting in the form of Hosta, Ferns and Dicksonia Antarctica with seasonal colour added in the summer.

Up one floor and on top of the glazed roof to the play space below is a dining garden with an outdoor bespoke barbecue and kitchen units. Climbing Roses and Jasmine wind themselves up and around twisted trellis panels by Strayparks and herbs are planted underneath. The planters are all bespoke metal and powder coated to match the interior kitchen colour.

The main terrace is on the second floor and this is where boundary planters and bespoke trellis create privacy. Outdoor speakers are inserted into the planters and a bespoke outdoor fireplace with a Chesney's mantle is operated from the home automation system. The terrace is made even more useable by a fully automated overhead awning which allows the space to be used even when the British weather isn't at its best.

The final terrace is decked and here we have used pots to create a pleasing picture from the main staircase. Topiary forms and herbs are mixed in terracotta pots to create a Mediterranean effect.

Since each terrace had its own particular challenge, this was a demanding and difficult project, but we achieved it with flying colours and left the clients with full satisfaction and great results.
